Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends. Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need.
This project was designed in collaboration with fashion designer Sir Paul Smith CBE RDI, who was born in Nottingham. The timber framed building looks striking set among mature trees in the grounds of Nottingham City Hospital.
The near symmetrical design and generous height allows the building to have a sense of space and balance. The oval building of green, glazed ceramic tile rainscreen, floats over a smaller basement surrounded by plants and trees. Balconies extend from the kitchen and sitting rooms and provide places from which to look out and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
