This new joint HQ for two vital emergency services provides a brand new administrative facility for both organisations.
The 7,500m2 building was constructed in the grounds of the existing Derbyshire Constabulary HQ and this presented a number of challenges:
- Live site conditions – a blue light provision (including police helipad) had to remain operational 24/7 throughout the build which included major service diversions
- Site operations had to take into account the live telecoms mast which serves the emergency 999 line for the Derbyshire force
- Security was of paramount importance given the sensitive nature of the project. Police checks were undertaken on anyone who needed to work on, or visit the site – including sub-contractors and suppliers.
Working with the novated design team, we developed the design proposals from tender stage and maintained open communications with the client at all times on cost, specification, and programming.
The creation of this joint HQ will provide a future-proof environment and enable collaborative working for both emergency services reducing both costs and wastage.
