The refurbishment and extension of this existing 1980s building provides high spec offices and one of the largest developments of its kind in the South East.
The previous building was changed beyond all recognition as the internal floors, walls, ceilings and services were completely removed, structural demolition was carried out in the existing core lift area and external turrets were removed to create a more modern shape to the building.
Extensive strengthening work in the basement included using mini piling rigs to install over 200 piles and new foundations were stitched into the existing structure. New steel frames were erected in various locations to increase the size of the building and a complicated steel structure was formed over the large span atrium.
The new envelope is of a modern floor to floor glazing design with a Schuco curtain walling system.
The North and South entrances to the building connect through the light, full height atrium creating a new ‘street’ area with cafes, restaurants and break-out areas.
Four basement areas provide parking which is access controlled.
