This purpose-built, ultra-modern manufacturing and testing facility on the Aviation Business Park at Bournemouth Airport provides AIM Aviation Cabin Division with 30% additional capacity.
The16,000m² building brings all of the following facilities under one roof:
• A Customer Zone – allowing the viewing of mock up interiors and styling options
• Office areas
• Manufacturing space
• Dedicated research and development test facility
The project was carried out in two phases, the first being the construction of the new facility, which is a shell and did not include fitting out; for the second phase we went on to demolish the old facility, while providing additional car parking, resurfacing of the approach road and supplementary external works.
The ground was stabilised and the structure is a steel portal frame with Kingspan composite cladding used for the roof and walls.
Environmentally we achieved a very low air tightness in the building and we maximised the use of attenuation tanks which ensured that this was a sustainable development.
AIM Altitude worked closely with Natural England to ensure that the development was able to proceed. The area was found to be a habitat for numerous smooth snakes and sand lizards, which had to be carefully and humanely trapped and released into a new, more suitable and sustainable SSSI area, by a team of licensed specialists, under the guidance of Natural England.
AIM Altitude was making a significant investment in their development of premises for the manufacture of aerospace cabin interior products.
