Construction Student of the Year winner, Luke Johnson

Student Sam Hinds was highly commended for his work in Electrical Installations

For the 10th year in succession we have supported construction students at Derby College by sponsoring their Peak Awards.

The awards are the highlight of the College’s year and recognise the achievements of all the students who are moving onto the next stage of their lives – higher education or employment. For the past 10 years we have sponsored the Construction Learner of the Year Award. This year’s winner Luke Johnson, an apprentice with a construction company in Derby,  is studying brickwork at Derby College and has represented the organisation at the regional Skillbuild competition and in the Guild of Master Bricklayers.

A second student, Sam Hinds, was highly commended in the award category. The Electrical Installation student has produced exceptional work over the past year and is working hard to find an apprenticeship.

The award was presented for B+K by Matthew Hitchcock, one of our construction trainees, who started his career at Derby College where he gained triple distinctions in the BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.
