A new generation of tower cranes are driving efficiency and carbon reduction targets

In the past 24 months, we have achieved some tower crane world firsts on our projects across the UK.

The next generation Terex tower cranes are assisting us on three major projects:

The Cadworks office project in Glasgow took delivery of the world’s first Terex hydraulic luffing jib tower crane, the CTLH192-12.  This is the first hydraulic model of crane ever produced by Terex.

Group Crane Manager, Dave Shooter, has been working closely with Worksop-based Select Plant Hire, to drive technology and innovation in the tower crane market.

Dave explained: “These next generation machines have huge benefits and give us many advantages. Select Plant Hire has been helping to ensure our sites have the latest lifting technology which is ensuring that we get maximum efficiencies from our tower cranes. We are also pushing to get carbon reducing Punch ‘Flybrid’ on all our sites with tower cranes. These use Formula One technology to save fuel and cut carbon emissions.”

The latest generation of cranes have:

We now have four of the first 10 PUNCH ‘Flybrid’ units in the UK on our sites. Each unit hired saves 44,000 kg of carbon per year.

Tobias Knichel, Managing Director at PUNCH Flybrid Ltd, said: “It is an honour to be working with the team at Bowmer + Kirkland on deploying innovative products. B+K is at the forefront of significantly reducing the fuel consumption and emissions of generators. PUNCH Power 200 units have now been deployed on multiple important Bowmer + Kirkland construction sites and are achieving impressive savings.”
