Congratulations to our group M+E company, DBS and trainee Esme Freitas who have been successful in Nottingham Trent University’s Apprenticeship Awards 2022.

Esme won the First Year Apprentice of the Year award and the company won Apprentice Employer of the Year (1 – 249 employees).

Esme is undertaking Level 6 Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveyor Pathway) BSc (Hons) at Nottingham Trent University.  It was stated, by the judges, that Esme’s maturity, professionalism and willingness to get involved has seen her achieve a lot in her career at such an early stage.  Including the advocation, introduction and implementation of 360-degree cameras on site, taking sole commercial responsibility for a project as she began the second year of her apprenticeship and promotion of apprenticeships and women in construction through career fairs and supporting other apprentices in a mentor and leadership role.  The judging panel finished by stating that she has a very bright future ahead of her.

Investment in trainees and their development is a key part of DBS and the judges stated that the 46 apprentices across all sectors of the business is testament to this. DBS continues to develop its commercial apprenticeship programme to include site secondments and a new training structure is being rolled out to other areas of the business.
