We’ve successfully completed this multi-award-winning building for the University of Newcastle at Science Central in the city.
The six-storey building named The Catalyst is home to the University’s teams for both Innovation for Ageing and Innovation for Data. It is the first commercial building in the North East to achieve BREAM ‘Outstanding’ and was completed six weeks ahead of programme and under budget.
The Ageing team works with research specialists, businesses and the public to develop, test and bring to market products and services to help make our lives easier as we age. This includes everything from designing homes and consumer products to rethinking transport and mobility.
The Data team links leading academic talent in universities with industry and the public sector to help develop skills to solve real world problems using advances in data science. It is creating a pipeline of talent to power the groundbreaking businesses of tomorrow and up-skilling employees at businesses, organisations and institutes to help them better understand and capitalise on the volume of data they are collecting about customers, clients and processes.
The impressive £30m building in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne welcomes school groups, students, business leaders, technical staff and members of the public who are interested in knowing more about how data may be used for commercial and social benefit. It is an important facility for anyone working in data analytics and visualisation. As well as drawing talent from across the country, it will improve links to Newcastle University – a world top 100 university for computer science.
The unique triangular design makes the building both distinct and highly indentifiable and it is a vibrant landmark on the Science Central Park.
