Waterside Campus for the University of Northampton

News

Unity Square, Nottingham

It was a successful night for the Bowmer + Kirkland Group at the Insider East Midlands Property Awards. We were shortlisted in two categories – Construction Project of the Year and Property Deal of the Year – and won both.

The Construction Project of the Year was won by the Waterside Campus scheme which we built for the University of Northampton. Our largest project to date at £123m, the Waterside campus included the construction of five educational/teaching buildings and the renovation of a Grade II Listed engine shed building for the student union building.

The Property Deal of the Year was won by our development division – Peveril Securities – for negotiating HMRC’s 25-year pre-let deal for phase one of Unity Square, Nottingham. Unity Square – the East Midlands’ most transformational scheme for a decade – is a gateway development site located opposite Nottingham Train Station. The site was acquired speculatively in 2015 with demolition of the existing buildings on site taking place in November 2017.

Planning permission was granted in January 2019 for an office development which will see a total development of 670,000 sq. ft. over two phases. In November 2018 a pre-let was agreed for the entirety of phase one to HMRC for a new regional GPU of 275,000 sq. ft. on a 25-year lease.

Peveril Securities’ joint venture partner on the scheme is Sladen Estates.
