The development commenced in mid December 2007 with the construction of the new Tesco store around the perimeter of the existing Tesco supermarket. The project required a lot of very detailed phasing and planning to allow the existing store to remain in operation and some of the back service areas of the existing store had to be demolished during the works.
The store was designed with various architectural features including glazed entrance atriums and a grand streetwalk mall. The mall included various retail offers and facilities on the first floor for further shops, medical and office space.
The development was constructed in three main phases. Firstly, the new Tesco store and PFS construction, followed by the demolition of the redundant Tesco store and car park extension; finally the construction of the non-food retail units.
