Sainsbury's Supermarket, Matlock

Value: £8m
Completion date: October 2007
Contract period: 30 weeks

This project involved construction of a new supermarket and petrol filling station in the disused Cawdor Quarry at Matlock, Derbyshire. The work included the removal of scree material and rock stabilisation work in the quarry to make way for the store.  The scheme also included car park, service yard and all associated external works.

After 17 years in the offing, the new Sainsbury's Superstore is now open in Cawdor Way, Matlock, Derbyshire. The 47,000 sq ft store opened its doors to the public for the first time on October 4th 2007. Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council, Geoff Stevens commented: "It's all been worth waiting for - the quality of the development is excellent."
