Phoenix High School, Shepherds Bush

Value: £6m
Completion date: Apr. '11
Contract period: 56 weeks

This new 6th Form Teaching block constructed from in-situ concrete incorporates an iconic design which integrates the building with the rest of the school and matches its aspirations to create a social ‘heart space’

The elevations comprise vertical timber panels of varying sizes, repeated at random intervals and framed with subtle colours. The resulting elevations are likened to a string of liqourice allsorts

The fins allow the plant and principle external vents to be located in their form, thereby reducing the floor to floor heights within the building and maximising the efficiency of the plant distribution and ventilation strategies.

The building will have a low environmental impact, having been designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of very good.
