The Prospect Inn is one of the few architect-designed public houses of the inter-war period, created in a modern cunard style, and is the only one by a named architect rather than a pub specialist. The building was originally designed by English Architect Oliver Hill (1887-1968) who is also responsible for the Midland Grand Hotel in Morecambe and the seaside resort of Frinton-on-Sea.
The building represented a pivotal point in the design of public houses; a move away from the idea of traditional environments for drinking establishments: effectively a 'redefinition of pub culture.
