Teamwork wins Quality Award

 

 

                                 

Bowmer & Kirkland’s high standards of construction and teamwork have been recognised by the Built in Quality Awards.

The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre at Rotherham, which was built for the University of Sheffield, has won the Commercial Building category in the South Yorkshire and Humber regional award.

Dubbed ‘The Factory of the Future’, the facility will house more than 100 University researchers and its vision is to become a world-class global research facility developing innovative and advanced technology solutions for advanced materials forming.

The £8.5m building was designed to be a national exemplar of sustainable building development and construction incorporated:

 

· Two wind turbines for electricity generation.

· Ground source heat recovery system.

· Rain water harvesting scheme.

· Natural ventilation.

· Natural daylight through a special roof feature.

· Heat recovery from the air handling units.

· Daylight controls on the lighting.

· PIR sensors on the factory lighting.

 

On receiving the award, Bowmer & Kirkland Contracts Manager, Richard Walker, said: “We are particularly proud to win this award for such an iconic building.

“Our aim from the outset was to exceed the Client’s expectations and it was particularly satisfying to be recognised in this way.

“I believe that our success was built on teamwork including client, designers, Bowmer & Kirkland project team and supply chain input.”

The AMRC will now go through to the National Built In Quality Awards final.
