Bowmer & Kirkland has won the Main Contractor of the Year Award in the Confederation of Construction Specialists annual awards.
Nominated by Huddersfield-based Easilift Loading, Bowmer & Kirkland was judged on its relationship with sub-contractors in terms of consideration, speed of payment, partnering and teamwork.
Bowmer & Kirkland and Easilift have been working together on a huge distribution centre in Middlesbrough for Tesco. The £125m project included the design and construction of a 940,000 sq ft high and low bay warehouse and installation of a complex automated handling system.
The CCS encourages nominations from across the UK from their members who believe they have had exceptional working relationships with main contractors.
Rob Fay, MD of Easilift Loading said: “We have worked with Bowmer & Kirkland for a number of years. By collaborating with Easilift and sharing information in the early stages of this project, it enabled us to work together in finding an early solution to challenges so that PC was never at risk.
“We nominated them for this award for their considerate and cooperative attitude and for taking responsibility for their own scope of works while giving full consideration to how they impacted on others.
“I believe Bowmer & Kirkland sets an example that other main contractors should follow in dealing with specialist sub-contractors.”
Bowmer & Kirkland Regional Director, David Horton said: “This award is recognition of the importance we place on our relationships with our supply chain.
“The teamwork displayed on this project was superb and enabled us to deliver an excellent project for our client.”
