Josh leaves school to join the company that built it!

Student Josh Noble was so impressed with Bowmer & Kirkland when they built his new school that he decided he wanted to work for them.

Now Josh (16) is a trainee Quantity Surveyor with the company’s North West region and is currently working on their Stockport Academy site.

A former pupil at Canon Williamson High School, Josh watched as the nearby Salford Academy grew in front of his eyes.

He explained: "I saw everyone working on the new Academy every day and thought that I would like to be involved, so I told my teachers that I would like to do some work experience with Bowmer & Kirkland.

"I was interviewed by the Site Manager and spent a week on the site and really enjoyed it."

Bowmer and Kirkland then attended a Careers Fair at Salford Academy and Josh took some information regarding careers with B&K.

Site Manager, John Baines, explained: "Initially we were going to offer Josh a trainee engineer position but we had recently recruited another trainee engineer for the North West region so we were pretty well covered there.

"Josh was confident and willing to learn the ropes in a new career and we thought he would be an asset to Bowmer & Kirkland, so he was contacted by our senior surveyor who explained the role of a Quantity Surveyor and the opportunities for training and advancement within the company."

Josh passed his GCSEs and started with B&K in July. He will start his employer-sponsored BTEC in Construction course at Salford College in September.

Elizabeth Haddock, Principal of Salford Academy, said: "It is a sign of the excellent working relationship between the Academy and the contractors, Bowmer & Kirkland, that they offered work experience to two pupils.

"They were so impressed with Josh’s approach to work that they have now taken him on as a permanent employee. It demonstrates the progress we have made in ensuring our pupils leave the Academy as highly employable young people."
