Considerate Constructor Awards

Four Bowmer & Kirkland projects have received awards in the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

A new heavy products factory for JCB at Uttoxeter and an office development at Colmore Plaza, Birmingham for Abstract Land Ltd received Silver Awards and a new Sainsbury’s store at High Wycombe and a development for Greater Manchester Police at Ashton under Lyne, both received Bronze Awards.

The Considerate Constructors’ Scheme was set up in 1999 by the construction industry. Sites registering with the scheme are regularly monitored against a code of considerate practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. The scheme is concerned with three main areas: the environment, the workforce and the general public.

Marks are awarded by inspectors and only the top seven per cent of sites, selected from a possible 7,000, were recognised in the 2009 Awards.

The Bowmer & Kirkland site team on the JCB project were commended for exceptional achievements in the categories of environment, respectfulness, responsibility and accountability and the site team on the Colmore Plaza project in Birmingham received particular praise for their respect for the environment and consideration for neighbours and the wider community.
